You can’t spell advertising without ITE: CNN is blowing it
Posted by drocolate on January 19th, 2010ITE friend and collaborator J was checking out the headlines over at CNN.com when he noticed an alarming trend with their advertising. It seems that the CNN homepage has a nasty habit of spitting out horribly insensitive life insurance ads at the worst possible times. One of these worst possible times, for example, would be when your top story pertains to the thousands of recently deceased in Haiti.

And the very worst one of all…
In all fairness, CNN also had a Unicef ad in their rotation, but it took about 20 refreshes to see it. I understand that advertisers pay the bills but the life insurance ads (especially the “If you died today” one) need an on/off switch for times like this.
