ITE Holiday Gift Guide — Day 15
Posted by drocolate on December 15th, 2009

Merry Holidays, everyone!
It’s that time again. Time for all of us to go out there and spend our hard-earned money on unnecessary material goods for our friends and family. The holidays are here! Yes!
But, because 2009 has been extremely hard on the wallet, you can’t just throw your money around on a whim. You need to be sure that you’re getting a great gift, and this is where ITE comes in.
Each day, until Christmas day, we will be giving you guys some gift-giving advice. We’re going to break every day into three categories: The Good, The Bad and The Completely Bizarre. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory from there.
And now: Gadgets.
DAY 15 — Gadgets

The Good

Voltaic Systems Solar Backpack
This thing is cool.
It’s a backpack that has three solar panels built in. The solar panels are connected to a battery that stores their power. That battery power is then piped out into multiple outlets that are designed for convenient, mobile charging of phones and iPods.
Plus, it doesn’t look like something Ed Begley Jr. would drive. Which is a big plus.
If I could get the whole thing for abut $50 I’d be completely in love, but it’s still an impressive gadget for the tech geek in your family.
Available at csnstores.com for $248.00.
The Bad

Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen Video Glasses
I don’t have a lot to say on this. Instead, because pictures are worth a thousand words, I present this:

Yeah. I rest my case.
The Completely Bizarre

Retro Handset for Mobile Phones
How awesome is this? It’s a “retro” handset that you can plug into your tiny, sleek cellphone. It’s the perfect “ironic” accessory for the tech-aware hipster on your list. It’ll match their mustache, sculpted hair and skinny jeans to perfection. And just think about how rad they’ll look when they say “I have to take this” and pull this big honking antique handset out of their messenger bag.
Seriously though, why does this thing exist? Yeah, I get it. It’s funny. For about 30 seconds. Then what?
And for $49.50 I want a lot more than a 30-second gag. But hey, to each their own.
Available at frontgate.com for $49.50.
