Merry Holidays, everyone!

It’s that time again. Time for all of us to go out there and spend our hard-earned money on unnecessary material goods for our friends and family. The holidays are here! Yes!

But, because 2009 has been extremely hard on the wallet, you can’t just throw your money around on a whim. You need to be sure that you’re getting a great gift, and this is where ITE comes in.

Each day, for the next 24 days, we will be giving you guys some gift-giving advice. We’re going to break every day into three categories: The Good, The Bad and The Completely Bizarre. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory from there.

Today we’re going to talk about something near and dear to some of us here at ITE. I’m talking about gifts involving the cultural phenomenon otherwise known as the Snuggie.

DAY 12 — Snuggie & Snuggie-related Items

The Nuddle

And now, a lesson in Snuggiology. Slanket, Snuggler, and Toasty Wrap are all terms for the Snuggie, kind of. Actually, a real blanket-with-sleeves aficionado will inform you that the Slanket is the higher-quality cousin of the Snuggie. Less mass-produced, therefore leaving room for higher fabric standards, the Slanket is the self-proclaimed “Best Blanket Ever!!!” Now a Nuddle, named for the combination of the words “Nap” and “Cuddle”, is a much more expensive Slanket/Snuggie-type item that improves upon those inferior products’ designs and caters to the rich and famous. I mean look at all those famous chicks who freaking LOVE their Nuddles!! They’ve got a dozen of them on their site. But in this economy, we cannot recommend a product like that without further testing. Hint hint. Anyway, in summary, If you want to kinda embarrass someone you know, and only spend like $10, you get them a Snuggie. If you love someone, you get them a Slanket. But if you love them so much that you’d want to make hot, sexy flannel-ensconced love to them, you get them a Nuddle. See? Good. Now that Grandma’s crossed off your Christmas list, let’s move on.

The Bad

The Dog Snuggie

Let me just start off by saying that a K-9 who shall remain nameless may be in possession of this item. It was not a holiday gift, and in fact it was more of an impulse buy. In other words, it was $10 at Walgreens. None of these explanations excuse the poor judgment that caused this dog Snuggie to make its way into my, I mean my friend’s, home. Let’s just say that dogs hate it, it looks weird and has these weird extra Velcro pieces up the back that appear to be decorative. In summary, the Dog Snuggie serves no purpose except for to laugh at your poor pup once or twice, and then give you a poor excuse for a white elephant holiday exchange gift. But if you’re still interested in purchasing this little guy, or if you just want to see a badass video, there is a great one, in true Snuggie-advertising style, on their site.

The Completely Bizarre

The Leopard Snuggie

Rawr! Maybe I’m alone in my opinion on this, but Snuggies are NOT. SEXY. Leopard print, however, is usually designated for things that are designated as “sexy”, and it’s the combination of the two that perplexes me about this gift item. That and the fact that they often show a Grandma-type in this particular printed Snuggie in the commercials. Kinda gross. Not the best choice, dudes who create those awesome commercials for Snuggies. However, found on the Interwebs, the girl pictured above seems to have some hottie qualities and also appears to be outdoors. In the dark. With sunglasses on. HOTT.

If you do decide to purchase a Snuggie-related gift this holiday, please buy it for someone who loves you. A lot. Otherwise, your relationship could be in danger. Happy Holidays!

We’ll be back with more tomorrow!
