Merry Holidays, everyone!

It’s that time again. Time for all of us to go out there and spend our hard-earned money on unnecessary material goods for our friends and family. The holidays are here! Yes!

But, because 2009 has been extremely hard on the wallet, you can’t just throw your money around on a whim. You need to be sure that you’re getting a great gift, and this is where ITE comes in.

Each day, for the next 24 days, we will be giving you guys some gift-giving advice. We’re going to break every day into three categories: The Good, The Bad and The Completely Bizarre. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory from there.

Today we’re going to talk about everybody’s favorite lazy gift-giving tradition, the holiday gift card!

DAY 8 — Gift Cards

The Good

Gift cards that do shit

Silly holiday shoppers of 2008! You thought all a gift card was supposed to do was look cute and hold money. Not so! These “Wow” cards from Target put a little pizazz in your pocket. Some are simply cards with sound chips and real working lights. One has the Target dog, Bullseye, riding a mechanical bull (kinda inappropriate, actually). Another is called “DJ Rock GiftCard,” allows you to pre-record a message to your recipient, and it has a parrot on it, oddly enough. One even has a remote control mouse driving a CAR! Honestly, I just don’t know how we have lived without these wows until now. All I can say is thank goodness for Target. They have saved Christmas!

The Bad

A gift card for the local gym or sports club

Every gift you give friends and loved ones has meaning. This one says, “Hey fat-ass! Get your big butt to the gym! You think a quality iron or apron is a mistake to give your wife? Try this gift card on for size. It makes you both lazy and judgmental in one single swipe. Why not add a hand-made card accusing her of stealing Santa’s cookies and eating out of the slop bucket with Rudolph and the rest of the cattle while you’re at it?! JEEZ!!!

Bottom line: don’t do it. Even if she asks for it. Do NOT fall for that trap.

The Completely Bizarre

Target Gift Card/Camera

While odd, this gift card is still the coolest, most useful and most unique I’ve seen. Usually when you head to Target with your freshly gifted gift card, you shop a bit, spend the balance and toss the plastic. Fun! Well with this baby, Target has really stepped it up in the realm of gift cards. It lets you snap 1.2 megapixel digital pics and comes with 8MB of memory, or about 50 pics worth. And bonus: it includes 40 free prints at the photo center. Cha-ching! Only catch is, the digi-gift-card-camera is only available in gifting amounts upwards of $50, so obviously it’s a gift for only your best of bestest BFFs.

Well, that’s what I was GOING to say about this particular gift card…

But something bizarre is going on, because I wrote the blurb above while trying to locate the actual cameragiftcardthing on the Target site. Problem is, I couldn’t find it anywhere. Credible sources like Gizmodo and Slashgear say it exists, yet there’s no trace of it on Target.com. So maybe the bizarre thing is that it’s a magical Christmas disappearing cameragiftcardthing. Cue X-Files theme song!

That’s it folks! Buy stuff!

Oh, and be sure to read our gift guide in its entirety:

ENJOY!
