Warren Buffett Thinks He’s The Monopoly Guy
Posted by breadwinner on November 4th, 2009
It’s time to get out the margaritas again, folks, because the Buffett that doesn’t sing about Margaritaville is at it again.
So apparently, railroads are a big indicator of how the economy is doing. Kind of like the lipstick index and the underwear index. And if family game night is any indication of how well the economy is doing…well it’s bad news because I hear old Warren B is playing a hell of a lot of Monopoly lately.
That’s Right, Monopoly.
Which is why I’m going to be referring to Mr. Buffett as Mr. Monopoly AKA Rich Uncle Pennybags. And the reason for this new nickname? Well, it was reported yesterday that the non-folk-singing Buffett is putting up $34 billion to buy Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., AKA second largest railroad in the country. SIDE NOTE: I wonder if that railroad has to put up that same disclaimer about not being affiliated with Burlington Industries just like Burlington Coat Factory does…
Anyway, Buffett explained that he’s simply making “an all-in wager on the economic future of the United States,” which sounds like super patriotic and selfless and whatnot, but we all know he just wants to collect money from every player who lands on that spot on the board. We’re on to you, Buffett! What do you think this is, Monopoly Junior?!
Which brings me to my theory that Buffett actually became “one of the world’s most successful investors” using “Monopoly theory” to develop his craft. Either that or he’s gone completely nuts and really wants to bring that famous American board game to life. Let’s go with the first theory.
Step Right Up Folks!
You too can become a billionaire by living like the world is your Monopoly board. I wonder which character Mr. Buffettbags likes to use when he plays? Do they make a silver walker?
Now let’s just wait to see whether this idea takes off. Personally, I’m going to run to Walmart tonight and buy up all the Monopoly games I can find. And then sell them at a premium to all the rest of you. A little practice in supply and demand. Then I’ll take over the world, obvi.
Good luck to you all.

[...] Another billionaire will obviously need to step in, buy Segway and try their luck at staying alive. I’m looking at you, Buffett. [...]
