WTF? ITE?: $600,000 dog

600000 dog

A long time ago I wrote a story about some people in Florida that spent $155,000 on a cloned dog. At the time, that sum was one of the most insanely over-the-top expenditures I had heard of.

Oh what a difference 6 months makes.

A woman in China named Wang bought a dog recently for the staggering cost of $600,000. Yeah, you counted those zeros correctly. Six hundred thousand. Or $4 million yuan. Either way it’s way too much. And this dog isn’t even a clone!

And to make matters even more absurd, the woman rented a convoy of 30 Mercedes-Benz cars to meet her and her new dog at the airport yesterday. Oh, and there were also two SUVs. So that’s 32 total vehicles for one woman and one dog. Though it is a big dog…

Oh! I haven’t talked about the dog. I’m sure you’re all dying to know what sort of dog costs better than a half million bucks (so you can immediately cross it off your “breeds I like” list). The dog is an original Tibetan Mastiff. After some quick research (thanks, Wikipedia) I’ve learned that these dogs are rare due to cross breeding, but even with that, $600,000? Really? And 32 cars?

All in all, I’m not a big fan of this Wang woman. First she drops $600,000 on a original Tibetan Mastiff, which is probably going to throw the entire original Tibetan Mastiff market into a tailspin. Thanks, Wang! Second, she organizes this ridiculous 32-car salute in one of the most polluted regions of one of the most polluted countries on Earth. Great job! Third, she’s uhhhh… her name is Wang! And that name is just too common! Yeah!

I can’t get past that price. $600,000?!?! That’s like 4 cloned dogs!! WTF? ITE?
