FREE STUFF ALERT: Kidrobot’s response to Taco Bell’s Bellhedz

Posted by rondostar on September 3rd, 2009

So, it’s been one day since my Bellhedz photos were leaked and majorly circulated over the internet causing an uproar in the designer vinyl community. One day is all it took for Kidrobot to respond. Check it out:

Death to False Vinyl Rally Tomorrow in NYC!

That’s right, Kidrobot is holding a rally tomorrow in the NYC where they will be giving away over a thousand Dunnys to show New York what REAL vinyl is! Over a thousand FREE Dunnys. Wow. They will also be giving away shirts, stickers and more (while supplies last.)

Details:

TOMORROW – Friday, September 4th

11:30am-1:30pm

Houston & Lafayette, just off Broadway in NYC!

You’ve gotta love how quickly Kidrobot was with this response. And I really love the visual they came up with to mock the Bellhedz promo art below. Way to go Kidrobot!

  2. awe-some! way to go Kidrobot.

  3. Let’s do this in Dallas!

  4. Nerds rejoice!

  5. Kidrobot aside, how about eating a REAL taco.

  6. only 1000? yeah like that can compete with a national program. I’m going to get the Bh anyway… You know these are for children right?

  7. So, lemme get this straight, dodonodo, you’re a little child?

  8. You should circle Dunnys around the TB on 50th, 28th and 14th. ;)

  9. viva la kidrobot! taco bell tastes like crap anyway. only thing thats good there are the fries.

  10. I’d like to add that even though this was a calculated strategy (meaning TB and the agency responsible likely weighed the ROI versus the suit possibilities), that doesn’t mean it sucks any less. Sellouts might win in the $$ category, but integrity still counts for something, right?

    Who said all that??

  11. Think outside the vinyl.

  15. really, there’s no more of a resemblance to a Dunny than the Mighty Muggs they sell at Wal-Mart. this is the same unoriginal crap that has plagued vinyl toys for years now. ever think a kids that is about 9 or 10 may get one of these meals and be interested and enjoy how these look and start a hobby of collecting vinyl figures and therefore giving Kid robot at least some of his (or his parents’) money? at least kid robot are like their fanbase; proud, whiney “indie” kids.

  16. [...] Happi-Go Luckies are, essentially, pens. Little knobby pens of delight, which have the unique distinction of also being little collectible figurines. It took me a little while of playing to realize this, but these Happi-Go Luckies pen figures share a lot of the qualities with the current designer toy movement. In fact, they’d look completely at home surrounded by KidRobot’s Dunnies, or the Artoyz Elements, or any of the other blind-boxed minifigures that are insanely popular right now. Jakks managed to get a designer toy under my hyper-critical radar. Kudos, Jakks. Taco Bell, you’re still on my list with those shoddy bell-head things that clearly rip off KR&#821…. [...]

    TACO BELL BOYCOTT WEEK 3
Congratulations to all of you who continue to join the boycott! As of today, YUM BRANDS stock is down -6.13% since the boycott began. Taco Bell has seen their profits tumble since the boycott began and they will keep going down. During the same time, Del Taco profits have doubled. None of this would have happened if Taco Bell would have done the right thing and apologized and pulled their rip off designs off the shelf. The boycott continues to grow in numbers and more and more customers are switching to Del Taco. Our industry sources tell us that STROTTMAN has been secretly interviewing creative directors from neighboring agencies to replace MIKKO MERONEN. We think this is a good start and a public apology should follow. We will continue to boycott Taco Bell until they remove all Bell Hedz from all locations. Kid Robot’s lawsuit against Taco Bell and STROTTMAN will only get bigger the longer the Bell Hedz are on the shelf. The people have voted with their pocket books. Hopefully the good that will come out of this is that future rip off artists will think twice and not want to join MIKKI MERONEN on the wall of shame.

A rally? really? It’s pretty sweet that they’re giving away stickers and toys but I really don’t think KidRobot has much of a case. They weren’t the first ones selling random miniature figures. Japan has had this thing called Gachapon for ages. Also KidRobot better start suing Disney. They already came out with Dysney Vinylmation.
