ITE Free Music Week, Day 1: Pandora

Posted by drocolate on July 13th, 2009

Free shit is awesome.

Free shit that helps you get through a laborious work or school day is even awesomer.

So, with this is mind, I’m going to be profiling a different free and legal online music resource every day this week. If you already know about them, then good for you, keep up the good work. However, If you don’t, then give them a try. You may find that the work or school day goes by faster when you’ve got some great music playing in your ear.

Ok, let’s get this started.

Day 1: Pandora

Pandora is awesome. Seriously.

Why it’s awesome…

I don’t want to elaborate too much on the history, but back in 2000 some folks started this thing called the Music Genome Project (read all about it HERE). The goal of this project was to classify every song ever made using about 400 different categories.

So, now, 9+ years later, Pandora has a shit load of data on a shit load of songs.

So what’s the big deal about that? Why does it matter to you?

Because, using Pandora, you can enter the name of one artist or song that you like and the magical Pandora brain (which is packed with that shitload of data I mentioned above) will provide you with similar songs that you may also like in a playlist.

The only way to really check it out is to just use it.

So GO HERE and give it a spin.

The downside…

Pandora is not as free as it once was. Listeners now only get 40 hours of free streaming music per month and if you go beyond that you have to pay $0.99 for the remainder of the month.

But 40 hours is a long time. And the Music Genome Project is really awesome.

So, once again, GO HERE and give it a try.

See ya tomorrow!
