Love him or hate him, there is no question that Billy Mays had an impact on the economy.

Whether you felt like you wasted your money when you bought his Big City Sliders cooker (we’ll get to that later this week) or were crazy satisfied when you managed to create a fake coffee cup handle out of mighty putty, the dude with the blacker than black beard was always in the middle of it.

So, to honor him, we’ll be rolling out one of his infomercials (with a wee bit of commentary of course) every day this week.

Day 1: Mighty Putty

Mighty Putty is not a glue. It’s a super powered epoxy. Hell yes it is. When the hand model makes a new handle for her previously-worthless coffee cup I was sold. This infomercial was all about the benefits. In its two stocked minutes it shows dozens of potential uses. My favorite is, of course, when they decide to pull an eighteen-wheeler using nothing but the adhesive power of Mighty Putty.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to move a tractor trailer but haven’t had the right tools.

I would also be remiss if I didn’t give Billy Mays some serious credit for pulling the rarely-seen “triple the offer” move at the end. Well played, sir. Well played.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some arts and crafts projects that need Mighty Puttying.
