In This Economy?

We’ve received word that in addition to the free smoothies, floats and frosty dairy desserts available for free this weekend, doughnut crack empire Krispy Kreme is giving away a free doughnut to each dad who comes in this Father’s Day weekend.

Codered heard it on the radio this morning and I saw a similar promotion announcement here, but we’re still awaiting confirmation on the freebie. According to that site, you just have to show up Saturday or Sunday with your dad and he gets to taste that sweet, hot, doughy freedom.

Since the offer is not exactly confirmed, I did a little research of my own. The first store I called never picked up. The second one had a confused-sounding woman who didn’t exactly speak English but she could tell me that on Sunday they will give a free doughnut to daddies. The third store’s manager said he’d heard something about fathers coming in wearing ties and getting a free doughnut, but that it’s not happening at his store. He said the promo was probably available in franchise locations of which there are none in the area. Every father gets “a doughnut of his choice” this Sunday at the fourth and final location that I called.

Basically folks, my advice is to call your local Krispy Kreme before you head over to confirm they’re participating in any sort of Father’s Day freebie promotion. It’s clearly not national.
