In This Economy?

Do I have to mention how much we love free stuff here at In-this-economy?! Nope.

I first heard about this little nugget on the radio this afternoon. I was only half-paying attention to the radio, so the only words I caught were Father’s Day, Free, and handspun. I deciphered the rest from there. Turns out I was right: Chick-fil-A is giving away free peach milkshakes to babies’ daddies from today through Sunday which — in case you didn’t realize — is Father’s Day. So if you find yourself in a bind without a gift for dear old Dad, take him on a little day trip to the closest Chick-fil-A for a little handspun, peachy refreshment. Think it’s a coincidence that Saturday is National Vanilla Milkshake Day? Yeah, probably not.

Now this is a multi-state promotion, but it seems in some states you have to utter a “secret phrase” to get the freebie. For instance, in Vero Beach, Florida, one must say “My dad is peachy keen!” to get the goods. Don’t think your dad is “peachy keen”? Feel like a loser if you say that cheesy phrase? Well, you can still try the new flavor, as it’s available through August 22nd. But it’s going to run you close to $3, depending on size.

But wait, there’s more!

Not to be out-done, fast food chain Wendy’s, which was named by a father for his freckly daughter, is donating fifty cents for every Frosty product sold this Saturday and Sunday to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption — in honor of Father’s Day. So your Frosty Dairy Dessert might not be free, but you won’t feel as bad for cheaping out on Dad because it’s for a good cause.
