SCAM ALERT: Fake waiters

A fake waiter has descended upon the quiet confines of Hoboken, New Jersey.

This impersowaiter has already hit two restaurants in Hoboken and has yet to be found. He has been described as a spikey-haired 20-something wearing a dark blue or black button-down shirt, yellow tie and khaki pants.

The news of this fraud hit on Saturday, so this spikey-haired douchebag could be anywhere by now. I doubt he’s still in Hoboken. I mean, he got away with nearly $200 ($186 to be exact), so I’m sure the heat of holding onto all that dirty money made him run. Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if we’re looking at the start of a Bonnie and Clyde-type crime spree of impersowaiting.

So as you sit down to eat this week give your waiter a second look. If he fits the description (and if he only appears at the end of the meal and asks if you’re “ready to pay?”), don’t give him any money.

Just make sure you’re paying the person who brought you your drinks, because I have a feeling fake-waitering may become more and more popular as the economy worsens.

Diner beware.
