NOTE: This post was an April Fool’s Day prank. Walmart is not giving away free guns…yet.

Select Walmart locations across the United States are going to be offering a free gun with any $50 purchase this Friday, April 3.

We started hearing about this promotion about a week ago but we doubted if it was really happening until we received a picture of one of the coupon cards today. Due to the fact that the promotion seems to only apply to select regions, there is no official website set up for it and some details are still a little hazy.

Here’s what we know: The coupon cards will be handed out when customers enter select Walmarts on Friday. From there those customers will have the opportunity to pick out a free gun if they spend more than $50 in the store. Certain Walmart stores have experienced a surplus of guns due to a shipping miscue and this is Walmart’s strategy to unload these items.

Here’s what we don’t know: We don’t know which Walmarts are having this promotion. We also don’t know how Walmart plans to deal with the impending tidal wave of legal red tape that could come along with something like this.

Basically, if you’re interested, make sure to check out your local Walmart on Friday. And if your Walmart is a free gun Walmart just be ready for some lines, because word will spread fast.
