Distractions: Mark Gormley and The Uncharted Zone

Posted by drocolate on March 19th, 2009

The economy sucks. We all know this.

And even I have to admit that sometimes bitching about it gets a little old.

So with that in mind, I’d like to introduce a new feature here at ITE. It’s called “Distractions” and it’s designed to help take your mind off of our current economic shitstorm — if only for a few minutes.

It’s also a really good excuse to put up any weird/funny/scary/awesome youtube clips we find.

Enough with the introduction, let’s kick it off.

DISTRACTION #1: Mark Gormley and The Uncharted Zone

theunchartedzonebluelogoLet me start with The Uncharted Zone as a whole. According to its website, it’s “the most important music show along the gulf coast.” According to me, it’s a hub for some of the most awesomely bad music videos you will ever see. It’s like this weird collective of Florida-based musicians who meet up at the Uncharted Zone “offices” from time to time and make horrible music videos in front of a green screen. It’s amazing stuff. Really.

One of these Florida-based musicians is a dude named Mark Gormley.

Mark Gormley recorded some killer tunes back in 1976. He toured and rocked the world for a few years before moving to Pensacola to enjoy the quiet life. Then, a couple years ago, he was rediscovered by Uncharted Zone king, Phil Thomas Katt. Mr. Katt brought him in, had him lip-sync some his old jams in front of the trusty green screen and sent him on his way.

It didn’t take long for the whole of the gulf coast region to notice the raw power of Mark Gormley. Don’t believe me? Check this shit out:

Raw. Fucking. Power.

But Mark Gormley’s not all about rocking faces off and serenading chicks from a super sweet space station. He’s got a softer side. Allow me to present video #2:

Note the presence of Tommy Robinetti in the intro to this one. Tommy Robinetti really adds something to the overall Uncharted Zone aesthetic. What that something is I’m not sure…but it’s something. Also, make sure you keep watching until the end to hear some stellar whistling skills.

And those two are only the beginning. Mr. Gormley has an entire new old album of this stuff. Check it all out if you dare.

I don’t know about you guys, but after that I’ve almost completely forgotten about the economy.

Almost.

  1. What is the dance he is doing…or thinks he is doing? Switching what foot holds the majority of your weight quickly was certainly impressive.

  5. He sings with such intensity, yet, he has the voice of an angel!

  6. He will go down as one of the greats.

one day he’ll have his own infomercial of DVDs and CDs…kind of like Monster Ballads. Our kids will just be in awe.

  8. Tiny Tim can blow himself. I take that back. He’s like cross between Tiny Tim and Getty Lee with maybe a dab of early Yes.

But we’re all overlooking the real question. Who’s his genius video producer??
