Rick Perry screws the unemployed in Texas

Dear Governor Rick Perry,

Thanks for nothing.

XOXO,
The Unemployed In Texas

In this economy
, of all times, when the unemployed need it the most — possibly the most in history, Governor Rick Perry takes the money that was promised to us by the new administration. Thanks Dick Fairy. Yeah, I’m going to be calling him that from now on…because what’s he given us? Dick. Therefore, he’s the Dick Fairy. Yup.

"You know that money you were counting on? Yeah, I'm going to need that back..."

"You know that money you were counting on? Yeah, I'm going to need that back..."

THE SILLY STRINGS

For those of you who either don’t live in Texas, don’t know about this or aren’t yet outraged by it, here’s how it went down. On March 12th it was announced that the Dick Fairy had rejected over $555 million in federal  funds, the particular piece of the Bailout Puzzle slated for extension/expansion of unemployment benefits to Texas citizens. He did, however, accept the other 17 billion of government stimulus. So why did the Fairy choose to reject the amount of money intended for the unemployed? Too many strings attached, he said.

Hey that's a nice TV you got there, Dick Fairy.

Hey that's a nice TV you got there, Dick Fairy.

Strings, huh. Kind of like how when you are elected governor and there are “strings attached” to that, hundreds of thousands of little constituent strings, which those constituents are (figuratively) hanging from, perhaps reminding you to effing help them out. Kind of like that. Dicky Rick tried to claim that by rejecting the money he was trying to protect taxpayers, employers — whatever would get people to not think he was simply being a first-class a-hole. Well, we’re on to you, Perry. So you didn’t want to have to establish a program you might have to figure out how to continue once the federal funds ran out? That’s no excuse. Times are different now, and the unemployed-trying-hard-as-hell-to-become-employed need whatever money they can get. So you should have found another solution. Another way to give us our much-needed bailout. Create a use-it-or-lose-it clause. Once the funds run out, it’s over. Whatever. But don’t take it all away; that seems like the worst thing you could do. But hey, I’m no lawmaker, governor or anything. I’m just a citizen. Who certainly didn’t vote for you. So I guess you don’t owe me anything, either.

Yeah, this crap isn't political at all...

Yeah, this decision wasn't politically motivated at all...

THE PURELY POLITICAL

Just a couple days before the partial-rejection, the Dallas Morning News posted this article where they described a tough situation for the Dick Fairy, as bad economic climates are tough for incumbent candidates up for re-election. Boo hoo, first of all. Secondly, if the Dick Fairy thinks the recession is going to hurt his votes, I certainly hope his PR team thought to factor in all the pissed off unemployed he’s taking money from. I’m pretty damn sure they’re not going to give him their votes. How many people is that? Nearing seven percent. That’s a lot of thumbs pointing down. Or is it middle fingers up? Take your pick.

THE UN-REJECTED REST

And what of the rest of the Texas bailout? “Texas still is in line to receive $16 billion in stimulus funds earmarked for transportation, education and health and human services projects.” Hopefully those services will get to keep the bailout, or else maybe it’ll go to California with the rest of the rejected money.

So to go back, some of the reasoning behind rejecting the money says that accepting it would lead to employers paying more in taxes to continue the program once the $555 million runs out, leading to less money for hiring, therefore fewer jobs, which of course would suck. But, with the Texas unemployment funds nearing depletion, that $555 million would fill a hole that employers would otherwise have to pay for in taxes. So basically, Dick Fairy wants employers to pay more now, when the economy sucks, versus later. Awesome.

THE HORROR, OH THE HORROR!!

What kind of horrors would have awaited us if we accepted the $555 mil? Well, we’d have to give more money to the already eligible unemployed, and expand the program to give more of the unemployed the money they need. That’s just too much giving for the Dick Fairy, I guess.

PS- Thanks to Hustler Magazine for the awesome pic of Dick Fairy’s head on an ass’s ass, featured in a December ’08 story about his last snafu — getting in bed with Merck and forcing all young girls in Texas to get the Gardasil shots, which isn’t covered by insurance.

  1. Rick Perry blows.

  2. Dick Perry is an abomination for a Governor. What his overactive arrogance fails to comprehend is that leaving victims of this economy to twist in the wind, cannot have an upside for his next campaign by those affected or those who have escaped an axe (so far). Does he not understand that most of those he has screwed have friends & relatives who all feel but for the grace of G-d, that lost job could easily have been mine. Everyone knows that TX unemployment money isn’t any incentive to not look for work, it just is enough to keep decent people from doing desperate things when there isn’t enough food to feed their family. Citizens who have been left to starve have a long memory and won’t hesitate to remind others, who may have forgotten too when election day comes. Perry hurts his party & its future besides undermining his own future political chances. Worse yet being a “hero”, costs him nothing.

  3. Amen to RoyMan’s comment!

  4. He did take the $555 million but he spent it on his nuclear hair shield.

  5. Please write to Perry! http://www.governor.state.tx.us/contact OR (800) 252-9600
I honestly believe, when he realizes that this issue WILL be the demise of his political career, he will accept the funds. On Wed. (the 25th) the governor of Nevada did!! He had rejected the unemployment portion too. He received SO MANY e-mails/letters/phone calls and magically, he changed his mind. Here is the statement he released:
As our economic crisis deepens, Nevadans are suffering because of layoffs, business closings and other cutbacks. We have the responsibility to do everything we can to help our unemployed workers get through these difficult times, even if that means passing legislation that we would not necessarily approve during prosperous times.
If we all pull together and let Perry know that VOTERS & THEIR FAMILIES (my parents, sisters, aunts etc. don’t require the extension, but if I don’t get it, they will have to help me so it affects them too!) need this extension, he may follow Gov. Gibbons’ lead. Please, get everyone you know, who will, to contact Perry!

I have concerns my self I lost my job 2 weeks ago. I cannot find a job in my field at all. I have look at many job web sights and nothing. I know I have been unemployed for only to weeks but I have a concern that my unemployment money will run out and thin were will I be. Working at some fast food place making minimum wage and not able to support my family at all. Is bad enough I’m making half as much on unemployment as I do while working but putting me in an even worse position making less than unemployment. I understand two people are running against Rick Parry that is Democrat Bill White which as been a great mayor for Houston and republican Kay Hutchison. I think Rick days are numbered

Well, I *did* vote for this bastard, but that will never happen again. I’m questioning even being a Republican now–it doesn’t take more than a few months of unemployment to figure out who actually cares for about our plight. Perry out! Wretched bastard. He could have come up with his own plan to help those of us who are struggling if he just couldn’t bring himself to accept the federal money. Gotta go for Bill White, I’m thinkin’.
