In This Economy?

I know real estate isn’t exactly the hottest topic in this economy, but what with octo-mommy-dearest and those folks who made a house out of a cave being in the news these days, I figured this story’s as good as any. Remember Michael Vick? Who could forget, right? He’s that quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons who —oh yeah— was totally devoid of human morals and was operating a dog fighting ring, the one who was considered one of the top ten richest athletes in the US? That Michael Vick.

Well guess what? Since he’s been incarcerated since December of 2007, and since he filed for bankruptcy in July of 2008 (I guess they let you do that from jail), his home in Atlanta is being liquidated as part of his bankruptcy plan. That multi-million dollar gem is what we’re talking about here.

Here’s a link to the 4.1 million dollar home on Funari Realty’s site, where no mention of Vick is made. That’s probably a good thing. Plus, for people who know who he is and would actually want to purchase the home for that reason, there are plenty of clues, including the giant number “7” painted on the floor of what appears to be the living room. Want to know more about this fantastic property? There’s a media room, a billiard room, a weight room, and 8 bedrooms Michael Vick can’t sleep in because he’s in jail. And probably because he’s not sleeping well at all these days. Anyway, this place looks like the typical house from MTV’s Cribs, except I don’t see any cars. I would imagine Vick would lead us through the house telling us “This is where the magic happens” referring to his master bedroom. And maybe he’d open his fridge to find a bunch of Cristal and some delicious grape drink or something. And the décor is just sad. Without the number “7” thing, I wouldn’t even know it was an athlete’s home, except that I guess most athletes’ homes (at least the ones I’ve seen on Cribs) are bare like this, painted in neutral tones with traditional furniture and chandeliers that just in no way match their personalities or aesthetic. Because being rich does not give you good taste. It does however afford you a boring, expensive decorator.

Is there a point to this post? Not really. I guess the point would be that I wouldn’t recommend buying this house. I’m thinking the four-legged ghosts that are most definitely haunting that place are pretty effing pissed.

And they bite.
