Fly the unbelievably cheap skies with Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is a budget airline that, like Ryanair in Ireland, has been making some waves as of late thanks to some extremely outside-the-box cost cutting ideas.

When I think about Spirit Airlines, I imagine a massive dungeon-like lair where they chain hapless PR people to the walls. They don’t let them go home until they come up with at least 50 ways to save money. This is really the only way to explain why sodas cost $3 each on board a Spirit plane. Or why the inside of their planes look like NASCAR cars thanks to them selling large sections of the interior as ad space. Oh, and the flight attendants, who have ads all over their uniforms, would be the pit crew in that analogy.

Yeah, the Spirit dungeon (sounds like a Rush album) has been working overtime lately and this week they revealed yet another cheapo breakthrough.

*DRUMROLL*

Spirit Airlines is going to start charging a fee when people purchase tickets anywhere other than at the ticket counter. In a time when other super-cheap airlines are closing their ticket counters entirely in favor of things like online sales, Spirit is trying to force people to purchase tickets in person. It’s almost like they’re penalizing people who plan ahead.

The fee is going to come out to somewhere in the neighborhood of $5-$10 per ticket. It’s purpose is supposedly to help cover reservation and booking costs, but I think we all know that that’s bullshit.

Spirit Airlines and Ryanair need to join forces and start a new airline called Cheap Shit Air. They can charge for literally everything. Need to use the bathroom? $5! Want some nuts? $5! You have a suitcase? $50! Want us to land the plane somewhere other than in the ocean? $100!

This is going to be huge.
