In This Economy?

What is the world coming to?  First people don’t want any Girl Scout cookies, then people resort to stealing from the children selling the delicious goodies.

And now it comes out that people have gone so far as to use counterfeit bills to “pay” for the seasonal treats, costing at least one troop $100 — and the problem appears to be spreading.

“That makes you feel really mad,” said 7-year-old Silvia Swanson.

No shit.

We know things are bad in this economy, but who the fuck steals (and that’s essentially what this amounts to) from LITTLE GIRLS? Great job, douchebags. You just cost a local troop part of its operating budget, crushed some girl’s dream of going to summer camp and denied a future Girl Scout the financial aid she needs to join, all in one fell swoop.

Probably the best part of this story though, is the fact that the Troop Leader tried calling police to report the crime, but the local station was CLOSED ON THE WEEKEND! Seriously, remind me the next time I’m in Bremerton, Washington to rob the local bank … on a Saturday (just kidding, of course). It all begs the question, WTF?

But at least each of the girls affected will get a “fraud badge” for helping uncover the crime. ‘Cause I’m sure sewing that circular badge on 20 sashes will REALLY make up for the money the troop has lost.

In all seriousness, the Girl Scouts have had a rough year. So, if you haven’t already, go support your local troop and grab a box of delicious cookies. And if you’re thinking about complaining about getting a few ounces less of Thin Mints, or planning to rob a Scout cookie stand, well, in the words of Chris Crocker, Leave the Girl Scouts alone!
