Making the tough choices?

Posted by guestblogger on February 20th, 2009

A recent article by USA Today talked about how people were cutting back due to the economy.  Jason stopped buying Power Bars at the gym and Angela no longer buys her $350 cup o’ coffee from you know who.

After some deep thought, we concluded that other people must be making hard decisions like this too. And didn’t they deserve recognition for their deep sacrifices?
While the names have been removed to protect… well… nobody, these are real stories we found while news-surfing. They represent only some of the drastic consumer cutbacks we found.

•    One man actually started carrying tap water from his home in a reusable receptacle instead of purchasing bottled water. How does he do it?

•    Women who were visiting their salon every week are now being forced to go ever-OTHER-week. Can you imagine how hideous they must look on those off-weeks?

•    People who formerly ate fast food 8X a week are now eating food they purchased for home consumption.  They’re hurting two industries: fast food and weight watchers.

•    Consumers who formerly used a self storage company to store extra belongings they never use are being forced to actually store those items at home or simply get rid of them altogether.

•    A husband and wife, avid movie watchers, are purchasing films and watching them at home.  Can you imagine the suffering if they only have Dolby 5.1?

•    People who formerly purchased obscenely overpriced designer clothing are actually shopping at places like The Gap or JCPenney.  Oh the shame!

•    Casinos everywhere, used to having oodles of people come in and simply hand them money, are discovering that the well is simply drying up. It’s like, people no longer want to part with their hard earned cash or something.
If you have a sad story like this to tell, share your misery with us. In this economy, the least we can do is listen.
