What one guy’s doing…
Posted by breadwinner on February 12th, 2009Meet Greg. He’s a friend of ITE with an unfortunate, yet not-so-uncommon problem. He’s been laid off, or “redacted” as he likes to put it. In his most recent blog post, he’s outlined his plan for staying sane in an unemployment period of unknown length. In this economy, you never know. That’s only one of his organized strategies for keeping on keeping on during his forced stay-cation. Another is LinkedIn trolling, Facebook feeling, and fearless face-to-face meetings with whoever he can get to have coffee with him. Okay he’s a little more particular than that. His most recent tactic includes creating a new Facebook group for other young recent unemployed’s in his area to arrange meetups, brainstorms, whatever will help them leave that group. And fast. He had this idea after heading to local “networking events” and realizing they were full of poor souls in their 40′s and 50′s who didn’t know what LinkedIn was, probably sent their resumes via telegraph, and thought meeting with other clueless folks would do anything to help. Nope.
The object of the new group is to get connected people connected to people who can help them, or even just commiserate with them. Greg’s ever-growing web of contacts might not be sealing any deals for him at the moment, but who knows who else could use some of those contacts, and whose contacts Greg could benefit from as well. Either way, check out his blog here, and hey, if you know anyone looking for someone with his skillset, why not pass his info along? Consider the karma.
