Scam alert: Daft Punk tickets

In this economy there is nothing more low-down than scamming people out of the little hard earned money they have left. That’s why i was so disgusted to hear that some villainous swindlers in China recently pulled a fast one on fans of French robot duo, Daft Punk.

The scammers created an event on Facebook called the “dafthidden 09″ tour. The idea was that if you gave your information over and purchased a ticket at the conniver’s now defunct website, you would then receive the location of an upcoming super secret Daft Punk show. The Facebook event contained the following ultra-suspect text:

“Now the french mythical electronic band Daft Punk is coming in Shanghai for one very special night on friday 13th February with a devious concept called dafthidden 09 tour as the concert venue will be kept hidden till Friday 13th morning. Daft Punk is working on his new album for 2 years and want to share the sound with their fans only before the album launch. And they planned 3 dates in Asia including Shanghai, 2 in Europe and 1 in US.”

The broken English would have been a major red flag for me, but I’m not a huge Daft Punk fan.

The major problem with this whole arrangement was that there was never going to be any Daft Punk show or tour. The duo’s PR people came out and said that they have no plans to tour anytime soon and that they will definitely NOT be playing a show in Shanghai on Friday the 13th. So basically all the Chinese ravers that got bamboozled are now shit out of luck. Maybe Oakenfold can sweep through and turn everyone’s frowns upside down. CAN YOU SAVE THEM, OAKENFOLD? CAN YOU???

Seriously though, everyone just be on the lookout for more cons like this. Kanye West is not going to perform at the T.G.I. Friday’s by your house, regardless of what you may see on MySpace. And Beyonce is not going to be shooting a new video at your high school, despite what you may have seen on someone’s Twitter. And Bruce Springsteen is not going to be playing an intimate acoustic set at the Wal-Mart down the street. Well, that last one isn’t that crazy, but you get the idea. BUYER BEWARE!
